Delphinium Days (Skyworship II) |
10.09.2006 |
Back in the late 90's, I remember being enamored with the Delphinium Days Remix of the BT/Tori Amos collaboration "Blue Skies". This song - along with "Flaming June" and "Lullaby for Gaia" - not only reads like a catalogue of some of BT's finest earlier work - but also formed the soundtrack to the first time I ever came to Japan as a student way back in the day.
Though it's been more than 10 years since that song first dropped on the club scene, it still sounds as fresh as the moment I first heard it. Whenever the opening measures crackle across the speakers, in that gulf right before the crescendo leading up to the hook, I can't help but wonder what BT was thinking when he was writing it.
Such blue skies are a perfect backdrop for the sharp intercut of the earthy relief of jagged man made constructs daring to jab upwards into the heavens with their razor sharp borders. Blues so encompassing, I couldn't but help to put something concrete in each shot as if to remind myself I am still of this terrestrial life, as if pointing the camera straight up into the very middle of the blueness and pushing that shutter might be to lose yourself into the profundity of blues so deep they saturate the very silicon of the camera sensor and reach out with their siren calls to embrace you in their greedy swallow.
More skyworship after the jump ("Full article"), including a link to a copy of the song.
Also, if you've never heard the Delphinium Days remix of Blue Skies, you can head over to youtube to give it a listen.

Your work definitely preserves the crisp, azure quality of the sky, and it's easy to see what moved you to write. Very nice!
