Showa Memorial Park |

It's Autumn! And on top of that, only 4 more days until I set off on the great Western-Japan Autumn Road Trip 2008! I guess I should probably start thinking about packing and stuff, huh?
Until then, to tide you over, here are some pictures from a recent trip out to Showa Memorial Park just west of Tokyo. I love this park - it's so huge and you wouldn't believe you are still in the greater Tokyo area when you're standing in the middle of it, surrounded by all the nature and trees.
I was hoping the ginko trees would be in prime season, but I was a few days early, apparently. Many were yellow, but some were still 1/3rd of the way green, and sadly, most of the leaves were still firmly attached to the branches, which meant no iconic shots of carpets of golden ginko leaves on the ground like you get at the end of November. But still, it was really beautiful!
More pictures after the jump
Okay, I know that one expects a certain mark-up when purchasing Apple products, but are you s*itting me!? Apple wants $30 for this...!!!? Ridiculous!
What makes it even MORE ridiculous is that in Japan it costs 3400 yen. Ahem. Pardon me, but the exchange rate between yen to dollars is currently 96 yen/ $1USD. Which means, this should actually cost less in Japan (like, 2800 yen) not more...! (3400yen is about $35.50USD...) And the dumb thing doesn't even include a damn charging cable!
After a moment of deliberation I ended up buying a generic iPod touch charger by some random company that only cost 1200 yen. Take that Apple! I'm willing to pay you a little more just because you're Apple, but you get ridiculously greedy like that and someone else will end up with my money. Craziness, man.
Okay, that's it for now! Off to go pack!

BTW I'm reeling from the idea of you with an iPod after all the miles of forum space we used up debating the merits of the Zune or Creative Labs or whatever it was you were in favour of, all that time ago! Damnit, I was right again!

Dude, you look well! And as prolific as ever - you make me ashamed of myself. Stroll on my friend. BTW is that still Starbucks Gal in your pics? Tell her I said hello!

those colors are AMAZING. I'm so jealous. I climbed all the way from fuji yoshida (i.e. bottom of the hill) to 5th station of Fuji and could never get both beautiful fall colors and beautiful blue sky in the same exposure. I wanted to cry.
that's why I have to leave Japan. and something about the way they say those Latins can dance.
but I'll be blogging away. I'd be tickled if you keep dropping in.
thanks for the comments on my blog!

love the photos of the park. i got there a little late so it was too dark to get those nice blue skies. i love the blue sky, yellow leaf, brown branch combo. there was a nice carpet of ginko leaves when i went, but most of them had been shredded! why?!
as everyone was leaving the park once it closed, i saw security holding onto an inebriated man who had apparently just stumbled into a pile of leaves --- ginko leaves were stuck all over the back of his black fuzzy sweater! hehe :)

I'm watching house hunters. Guy is in Tokyo looking to move, he has a tiny apartment and wants a bigger one. Area is ...Shibuya, and 2 other areas in central. They keep saying it so fast. So anyway, it made me think of you.
Why aren't you on Twitter?

Oh, you're so lucky! Here the sunny and foliage-y part of autumn is already over; haven't seen the sun in days. Me so depressed … Need more chocolate …
Have a great trip!
