Strange day at the office

I had another weird experience today at work. But before that, I'm so happy to note that I'm gonna hop on over to Tokyo in a couple of weeks for some much needed "cultural furlough" (translation: "panda partying in the big city"). I miss Tokyo - not only my friends, but also the atmosphere, people, clubs, shopping, public transportation other than the bus...!... etc. It will be great to get back - I really need...

Cold day

A three day weekend here in the land of the rising sun (though not so sunny today, as you will soon see). Actually, it's Monday, which sadly means I have to go back to work tommorrow. Panda is tired, and desperately needs one more day to recharge before jumping back in the grind. To this end, I went grocery shopping and splurged on tons of food. (keep in mind that I had been literally eating...

Coming along

An old house I pass on my way to work everyday... Apparently the last color scheme I picked was too dark to show up on some people's monitors. (*in a huffy voice* "which obviously means you need to calibrate your monitors...!") So I'm working on it now. I'm not sure how I feel about this current scheme (the original idea was "sleek and autumnal", this new one looks too "shiney and I-just-learned-the-gradient-tool"-ish). So we'll see....

Japans a blast...

"Hey mike!! You know what would be really swell? If you would maybe prepare a three hour presentation talking about yourself, America, internationalization and experience as a foreigner living in Japan. Visual aids would be great, and if you could throw in a couple of power point presentations too? Oh yeah, and you'll need to do it all in Japanese since no one in our school can speak a lick of English, despite your valiant...

Site update

I am so exhausted right now. I hate Thursdays - no matter what I do, by the time 9pm comes around, I'm dragging myself through the motions. I feel really bad for my night course adult students - I am being a shitty teacher, and I know it. It's painfully obvious to all of us in the room that I really don't want to be there, that I'm dead tired, that I desperately need more...

Humpday

I hate the tuesday-wednesday-thursday stretch. Wednesday sandwiched inbetween those two unsufferably long days, an exhausted panda wearily tripping home from work at 9 pm on tuesday, shuffling bleary-eyed through wednesday and getting up at 7 on thursday to work another one of those 13 hour days again. The best thing after a long day - a long soak in the (tarepanda) tub! I've been going through a "ho-hum-Japan" phase lately. I think it's at that...

Busy night

Pretty busy tonight trying to get my lesson plans all set up for tommorrow, so I'm afraid there's no time for witty commentary in this post. *waits for people to sigh in disappointment* Why are panda's eyes so pretty? Read on and find out!! I went out last night, and because I am so very piteously poor, I ended up nursing two drinks for most of the evening. I hate doing that because the bartender...

Dead panda walking

I'm slowly, but surely, starting to feel better. Furthermore, through some bizarre detail of scheduling, I've somehow managed to sneak the day off today, to rest and recover (my supervisor says it's to compensate me for working on Saturday - I still think that I'm coming out ahead on this deal, seeing as how I got Monday off, but I'm keeping my yap shut!). This helps. Hey, by the way, who knows what this is!?...

Panda Plague

I'm sick right now, so no updates this past weekend (or today) - sorry. If I can manage to drag my pathetically ill self to work tommorrow, I might be able to post something while hacking up a lung at my desk. Now listening to: "Juno Reactor - Navras" (off of the "Matrix Revolutions" soundtrack. Yeah, the dope song from the final fight. The movie, by the way, S.U.C.K.E.D....) 9:15 am...

pandadoodles

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been quite sick the latter half of this week. When you've got a sore throat, there's nothing like a good old fashioned American cough drop. The weak wanna-be Japanese nodoame's are no match for the ferocity of rawness which permeates every aspect of my throat when I'm ill. Mmmm.. medicate my vapors, baby. Goodness, I should buy stock in Ludens and Halls.... I don't have much important to...

Untitled

So you're a real big blogger huh? Is that wierd or anything?? Do you like it?? I don't think I could dump a whole bunch of stuff out there like that.... Like when you were talking about your fears about going to Japan and the lenght of your relationship with .... I would have never put that up, especially since ... probably read it and had her own thoughts and stuff. Do your parents read...

Bunka no hi

Today was "Cultural Day" so no school. I didn't actually do anything exciting today, however, on Saturday I went over to Kenrokuen park. As some of you may recall, my initial impression of Kenrokuen was somewhat less than spectacular (I do believe I referred to it as being "akin to a golf course"), nevertheless, as fall approaches, even golf-course like national gardens become awash in a veritable artist's pallet of autumnal colors. I'm too lazy...

Best part of waking up II

The time? Saturday morning, 7am The place? Right outside my apartment window The culprits? Pork barrel Japanese construction workers The dirty deed? Waking my poor, bedraggled panda ass up waaaay too early for a Saturday morning. Finally, unable to sleep, I roll out of my futon, landing on the floor with a pathetic groan and sack-of-potato-like thump. Crawling on my hands and knees over to my window, I peer outside, squinting at the evil bright...
