i've used expedia before, although only for hotel bookings. what terrible service you received! have you made a complaint to company hq? you should get a voucher or something...the consumerist.com is also one place to voice your anger. public shaming! public shaming!
maybe you two should go to hokkaido. they have a lot of dairy products there and it is like wisconsin, but with more japanese people and more mountains.
or you could use the refund money to buy really nice omiyage for your nice co-workers, and for the ones who implied that you imbibe too many calories, give them something horrid and say "well, you were watching your figure, yeah?" while their colleagues are eating melon flavored melon corn snacks or something tasty.
