The Great 2007 Tohoku Road Trip

As mentioned in my last entry, after expedia “you haven’t got prayer of making your flight” dot com decided to (yoghurt) poop all over our carefully planned Mongolia expedition, my friend and I decided to make the best of a bad situation and go on a week long road trip to Northern Japan instead.

The first shots from the 2007 Tohoku Road Trip

We just got back a couple of days ago, so I’m still processing the pictures. I’ll have the first trip report up later this week, however, so you can look forward to all sorts of fun things! Like what you say? Well, how about boiling sulfur lakes, desolate temples for dead children, blind Japanese shamans (who occasionally claim to channel the spirit of Marylyn Monroe), trees that like to light themselves on fire, mummified Buddhist priests and murderers with a penchant for eating tree sap, the beautiful green hues of the Japanese countryside and all its verdant rice paddies, smelly face-licking dogs, the world’s most dilapidated looking “friendship bridge”, metallic killer cyber beetles, photos of midgets stealing political posters and purchasing porn at highway rest stops, extraterrestrial-paedophiles-wearing-WWII-german-infantry-helmets roadside crossing signs, depressing seaside shanty towns with no working baths and much, much more?

Don’t you want to know more? Stay tuned!!

Now listening to: “Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue”

You can look forward to this tune and others from our trip over the course of the next few posts in our “Ride with us” feature which I shamelessly stole from the fantabulous bentong, whom I am quite aware, I still owe a lettre. Don’t worry buddy, I got you!

There’s a place off Ocean Avenue,
Where I used to sit and talk with you,
We were both 16 and it felt so right,
Sleeping all day, staying up all night,
Staying up all night.

There’s a place on the corner of Cherry Street,
We would walk on the beach in our bare feet,
We were both 18, and it felt so right,
Sleeping all day, staying up all night,
Staying up all night.

If I could find you now
Things would get better,
We could leave this town,
And Run forever,
Let your waves crash down on me

And take me away, yeah.

This has nothing to do with your post, but I thought you’d like it considering you’re into the whole ‘sky worship’ thing. It’s the alphabet in negative space using buildings and the sky. http://www.slanted.de/node/1361

wow…cool picture…More trees than people and buildings…still got the power lines though.
But still nice to see something resembling real nature left in Japan

Your brother can’t help but notice that not only has your appearance emo-phied, but your “now listening to” has shifted over time from gangsta rap to… Yellowcard?
Not that I have anything against Yellowcard mind you, I happen to like emo music, just… is this what is in store?

Even more horrifying… search “emo panda” on images.google.com and go to the third page… towards the top right.
